My name is Lhakpa Dolma Lama and I was born in one of the remotest areas in the Northern Himalayas in Nepal, Nubri, where there is no infrastructure, such as running water, schools, health centers and transportation. My hometown is a day by bus and six to seven days of trekking from my school in Kathamandu. Therefore, I often don’t see my family ; however, I journeyed that long way in June 2011, just before I came to study in Australia.
Life is harsh in the mountain villages like mine.I have seen many children die of curable diseases such as colds and diarrhoea, including my two older sisters in my village. Luckily, my two other older sisters survived along with my mother, and they still living in the village, just doing simple farming. My father passed away in 2008 and my family has no financial resources. I am the only member from my family who has got the chance to attend school thanks to the support of others.
I am so grateful to my teacher, Thrangu Rinpoche, and to all the people in Australia who have helped me in so many ways.
