In July 2011, I got a full scholarship at Ivanhoe Grammar School (private school) in Melbourne, Australia. Currently, I am in year 12 and have been studying here for two and half years. As English is my 4th language and the teaching style is different in Melbourne, I have worked very hard to face these challenges. There were some times that I cried from stress; however, I haven’t given up on my dream. I came from far and have worked intensely to achieve this level. During my time here in Ivanhoe I continue participating in extracurricular activities.
When I was in year 11, I was in the Elicos Mentoring program where I spent time with other international students helping them to settle well into life in Australia and sharing my own tips with them. I volunteered to assist some teachers in Buckley House (our Primary School) in netball and Australian rule football. I was in the soccer first team at Ivanhoe as a striker player. I also played in girl’s the badminton team in the highest level. Currently I am in the girls B basketball team. I have got an Half Blue award given to students who perform well in their particular sport in that season in both soccer and badminton. I am also a member of the International Council where members organised International assembly. During this assembly we perform different cultural activities like dance, song, speech and martial arts. Because of my leadership skills, I got selected as a school prefect for 2013 for which I am very happy because this role is extremely challenging.
The best part about Ivanhoe Grammar School is the teachers. I love my teachers because they are always there for me to help me not only during class hours but after class as well. They have encouraged and assisted me in all the ways they can. Likewise, my host families have helped me a lot. Even if I am miles away from my own family I feel like I am living with a family. I like Australia and I am and will be always thankful for what I have got in my life.
